David Ramey makes several valid points and is probably correct in demanding that historians, not doctors, should write articles on medical history. As physicians, we obviously have fallen into the trap of repeating what authorative medical texts say about this subject. There can, of course, be only one true history of acupuncture. As a researcher, I certainly don't want to perpetuate any myths and am thankful to historians for correcting them. I encourage Ramey to publish his account of the history of acupuncture in a medical journal.

The author has declared no conflicts of interest.
