Renal osteodystrophy: management of hypophosphataemia

Tilman B. Drüeke

NDT 2000; 15 [suppl 5]: 32–33

The following erroneous statement, due to a typing error, should be corrected on page 32, right column, under the heading Intestinal phosphate chelation, paragraph 2.

‘Ideally, calcium-containing compounds should be given midway between meals to achieve maximal phosphate binding.’ This sentence should be replaced by the following: ‘Ideally, calcium-containing compounds should be given at the end of meals or immediately after meals to achieve maximal phosphate binding. If calcium supplements are given midway between meals, this will mainly lead to enhanced intestinal calcium absorption, whereas phosphate binding will be limited.’
