Kuratorium der Gesellschaft für Nephrologie. Scholarships for Training in Clinical Nephrology for Junior Nephrologists from Eastern Europe
The Kuratorium der Gesellschaft für Nephrologie is prepared to support for 2003 and 2004 a total of 4 scholarships for junior nephrologists (<40 years of age) from eastern Europe. The purpose of such scholarships is to provide training for up to 3 months in basic or applied nephrology in leading departments in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Support for travel and accommodation expenses of up to \#8364; 3000 will be provided.
The application (max. 3 pages) should include: curriculum vitae; description of main clinical and scientific activities, fields of major interest for training (clinical nephrology, hypertension, uraemic bone disease, immunotherapy, haemo/peritoneal dialysis, transplantation). Knowledge of English or German language is a prerequisite.

10th Anniversary Course of the Budapest Nephrology School 28 August to 2 September 2003, Budapest, Hungary
Under the auspices of the ISN, ERAEDTA and EKRA, the anniversary course is scheduled at the Faculty of Medicine, Semmelweis University, Budapest. Internationally known speakers will address up to date topics in nephrology, dialysis and transplantation, with an emphasis on pathophy-siological mechanisms and evidence-based treatment modalities. The course is designed to meet the requirements of 45 European/US CME credit points. The number of participants is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

1st Renal Failure Academy 1921 September 2003, Iasi, Romania
The 1st Renal Failure Academy courses are scheduled at the World Trade Center in Iasi, Romania, and are addressed to young nephrologists (<40 years of age) from all Eastern European countries. Internationally reputed speakers will cover major topics of clinical nephrology, hypertension, dialysis and transplantation, focusing on evidence-based medicine therapeutic options in acute and chronic renal failure. The format will provide interactive sessions and workshops. Participants will be given handouts covering all the subjects of the lectures.
Most of the expenses (travel costs, accommodation, educational materials, etc.) will be covered by the organizers. The registration fee will be 50 Euros. There is a limited number of participants. The 1st Renal Failure Academy has the support of the ERAEDTA, ISN/COMGAN, Joint Action Nephrology Eastern Europe and the Romanian Society of Nephrology.

Dialysis Academy: Non-dialytic and dialytic management of end-stage renal disease patients
The courses of the Dialysis Academy will be organized twice a year. The target audience are trainees in nephrology. The total number of participants is limited. They will be selected based on CV, by an international jury.
Registration and accommodation are free. Support for travel costs will be provided.
The ninth course will take place in Potsdam, 36 June, 2003.

Commission for the History of Nephrology Funding Opportunities
Student scholarships
Four scholarships of $500 each are available for competition by students wishing to embark upon short studies on the history of nephrology. Applications should include the name of supervisor and a brief description of the project.
MSc in the History of Nephrology
The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine offers a one year MSc course and would consider favourably applications from students and members of the ISN.
MD degree in History of Nephrology for UK medical graduates
The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine has a support scheme for medically qualified individuals who wish to obtain a higher degree in the History of Medicine. This is usually a two year period of study culminating in the submission of a thesis. Appropriate supervisors would be suggested.
PhD studentships in the History of Nephrology
The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine would look favourably upon suitable candidates who wish to apply for 3 years of funding to support studies towards a PhD.
