International Society for Hemodialysis

The International Society for Hemodialysis (ISHD), patterned after the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD), has recently been formed to foster haemodialysis-related educational, research and patient-care activities. The society will have its own scientific journal and educational web-site.

The 13th Berliner Dialyseseminar 1–2 December 2000, in Berlin

The main purpose of the meeting is to provide basic knowledge on the entire field of renal replacement therapy. There will be only invited lectures.

1st Postgraduate Training Course of the European Renal Association in cooperation with the Postgraduate Medical School and the Czech Society of Nephrology 22–26 January 2001

In collaboration with the Postgraduate Medical School in Prague, the European Renal Association [President, A. Davison (Leeds); Programme directors, E. Ritz (Heidelberg) and V. Teplan (Prague)] will organize the 1st Postgraduate Training Course from Monday, January 22 until Friday, January 26, on the premises of the Prague Postgraduate Medical School. The meeting is supported by the Postgraduate Medical School and Czech Society of Nephrology. The topics of the conference are primary and secondary glomerulonephritis, renal transplantation, hypertension in renal disease, chronic and acute renal failure as well as options in dialysis therapy. Speakers include A. Davison (Leeds), R. Gokal (Manchester), K. Konner (Cologne), N. Lameire (Gent), J. Mann (Munich), K. Opatrny (Plsen), J. Nagy (Pecz), E. Ritz (Heidelberg), R. Rutkowski (Gdansk), V. Teplan (Prague), V. Tesar (Prague), Ch. Wanner (Würzburg), J. Weening (Amsterdam), A. Wiecek (Katowice), Ch. Winearls (Oxford) and M. Zeier (Heidelberg).

The conference is aimed at physicians in training for nephrology. Participants will be given a handout covering the subjects of the presentations. There will be ample time for discussion and interactive sessions.

The participation fee is 80.-$. Costs for accommodation and meals will be covered by the European Renal Association.

The Sixth International Conference on Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies 8–10 March 2001, San Diego, CA, USA

This conference is a unique international symposium featuring a forum for multi-disciplinary interactions between physicians, nurses, support personnel and undustry involved in the care of the critically ill patient. Continuing the trend established with the previous conferences, there is an exciting and up-to-date programme planned covering the latest developments and research in the field of ICU medicine and CRRT. The conference is structured to promote multi-disciplinary interaction among specialists in nephrology, critical care, nursing, support personnel and undustry involved in the care of the critically ill patient. The conference provides an excellent opportunity for networking with access to international experts. The International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism in Renal Disease was established to bring scientists and dietitians together in order to explore the special requirements of patients with kidney disease. The 11th congress in Nagoya will provide up-to-date information about major advances in nutrition and metabolism and how these advances influence the care of kidney patients. The scientific program will include plenary lectures, symposia, free communications, and poster discussions as well as a special program for renal dietitians. The 2nd International Congress on Immunointervention in Nephrology will be held 24–26 May 2001 in Chia Laguna (Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy). This meeting will deal with therapeutic strategies in kidney transplantation and glomerular diseases. The programme will include lectures from invited international speakers, round tables, sessions of poster and free communications. The aims of this meeting are to present an update of the emerging immunomodulating drugs and discuss the best immunosuppressive strategies in kidney transplantation and primary glomerulonephritis.
