Kuratorium der Gesellschaft für Nephrologie. Scholarships for Training in Clinical Nephrology for Junior Nephrologists from Eastern Europe
The Kuratorium der Gesellschaft für Nephrologie is prepared to support for the year 2001 and 2002 a total of 12 scholarships for junior nephrologists (<40 years of age) from eastern Europe. The purpose of such scholarships is to provide training for up to 6 weeks in basic or applied nephrology in leading departments in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Support for travel and accommodation expenses of up to DM 2.500 will be provided.
The application (max. 3 pages) should include: curriculum vitae; description of main clinical and scientific activities, fields of major interest for training (clinical nephrology, hypertension, uraemic bone disease, immunotherapy, haemo/peritoneal dialysis, transplantation). Knowledge of English or German language is a prerequisite.

International Society for Hemodialysis
The International Society for Hemodialysis (ISHD), patterned after the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD), has recently been formed to foster haemodialysis-related educational, research and patient-care activities. The society will have its own scientific journal and educational web-site.

XII Latin American Congress of Nephrology and Hypertension IV IberoAmerican Congress of Nephrology VIII Central American and Caribbean Congress of Nephrology 1417 April 2002, San José, Costa Rica
Under the auspicies of the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension, Central American Society of Nephrology and the Spanish and Portuguese Society of Nephrology. These meetings will be held at the Convention Center, Hotel Herradura, San José, Costa Rica.

Please submit the abstract as an e-mail with the abstract as an attachment in a Rich Text Format (RTF) or as a Word file. If you decide to admit the abstracts by fax please remember to also submit five hard copies by post. Abstracts should be structured using the following headings: Objective, Design, Setting, Patients, Main Outcome Measurements, Results and Conclusions. Please make sure that the length of the abstract does not exceed one side of an A4 paper, that you leave margins of 2.5 cm, and that you use a font size no smaller than Times 12.
5th European Peritoneal Dialysis Meeting 47 May 2002, Brussels, Belgium
The meeting will bring together the clinicians and scientists interested in sharing new information on peritoneal dialysis. The programme will include lectures, free communications, poster presentations and discussion, and clinical practice sessions.
In addition, an animal models meeting and a paediatric nephrology course will take place on 34 May. The deadline for abstracts is 15 November 2001.

5th European Basic Multidisciplinary Haemodialysis Access Course 67 June 2002, Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia
The meeting is organized by Vascular Access Society, Slovenian Society of Nephrology and Department of Nephrology, University Medical Center, Ljubljana. Commission for the History of Nephrology Funding Opportunities
Student scholarships
Four scholarships of $500 each are available for competition by students wishing to embark upon short studies on the history of nephrology. Applications should include the name of supervisor and a brief description of the project.
MSc in the History of Nephrology
The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine offers a one year MSc course and would consider favourably applications from students and members of the ISN.
MD degree in History of Nephrology for UK medical graduates
The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine has a support scheme for medically qualified individuals who wish to obtain a higher degree in the History of Medicine. This is usually a two year period of study culminating in the submission of a thesis. Appropriate supervisors would be suggested.
PhD studentships in the History of Nephrology
The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine would look favourably upon suitable candidates who wish to apply for 3 years of funding to support studies towards a PhD.
