Personally I do not believe that it is correct to remind someone of his birthday anniversary when he is older than 60, for two reasons: (a) you remind him that he is approaching retirement; (b) you remind him that in a few years he will no longer be an active part of the society. For these reasons it would be better to classify people into two groups: (i) young and (ii) less young, and to divide the latter into two sub-groups: (a) people who live awaiting retirement and (b) very active people who continue to stimulate the society with their indefatigable presence.
Well, Giuseppe D'Amico who celebrated his 70th birthday recently is a very active person who can be included in the sub-group iib for three reasons:
Why this feeling between G. D'Amico and other nephrologists in the world? He is a very distinguished scientist and a good teacher for nephrologists who wish to clear their ideas in nephrology.
It is a great honour for me to remind the Europeans and members outside Europe that G. D'Amico at the age of 70 continues to be a light to follow for young and less young nephrologists.
