The 2nd International Congress on Immunointervention in Nephrology 2426 May 2001, Chia Laguna, Italy
The 2nd International Congress on Immunointervention in Nephrology will be held 2426 May 2001 in Chia Laguna (Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy). This meeting will deal with therapeutic strategies in kidney transplantation and glomerular diseases. Relationship with DOQI Adequacy Guidelines in predialysis, peritoneal and haemodialysis in adults and children. (vi) Nutrition and acid/base disorders. Cardiovascular disease in patients with renal disease, oxidative stress, inflammation and nutritional concerns.

IX International Congress of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis 2629 June 2001, Montréal, Canada
The ISPD 2001 Congress Organizing Committee is preparing a programme that will provide up-to-date information on the basic and clinical science of peritoneal dialysis, including such related issues as gene therapy for maintaining peritoneal functions, novel bichemical pharmaceutical products, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, women's health, palliative care, and others. The programme will be organized in plenary sessions, free communications (oral and poster), and workshops. Finally, the congress will break new ground in providing an outstanding forum for education in technology. As a result, this congress will be at the vanguard of other nephrology and dialysis meetings. In addition, there will be an important pre-congress course on the Basics of Peritoneal Dialysis co-sponsored by the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD), the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) and the Canadian Society of Nephrology (CSN).

The International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism in Renal Disease was established to bring scientists and dietitians together in order to explore the special requirements of patients with kidney disease. The 11th congress in Nagoya will provide up-to-date information about major advances in nutrition and metabolism and how these advances influence the care of kidney patients. Commission for the History of Nephrology Funding Opportunities
Student scholarships
Four scholarships of $500 each are available for competition by students wishing to embark upon short studies on the history of nephrology. Applications should include the name of supervisor and a brief description of the project.
MSc in the History of Nephrology
The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine offers a one year MSc course and would consider favourably applications from students and members of the ISN.
MD degree in History of Nephrology for UK medical graduates
The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine has a support scheme for medically qualified individuals who wish to obtain a higher degree in the History of Medicine. This is usually a two year period of study culminating in the submission of a thesis. Appropriate supervisors would be suggested.
PhD studentships in the History of Nephrology
The Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine would look favourably upon suitable candidates who wish to apply for 3 years of funding to support studies towards a PhD.
