 INTRODUCTION

Neuroendocrine and neural factors that regulate aspects of autoimmune and inflammatory disease will be explored at the molecular, systems, and clinical level. Diseases impacted by such factors include inflammatory arthritis, lupus, CNS autoimmune disease (M.S.), inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome, allergic asthma, rhinitis, and dermatitis. In addition, immune factors in neuronal cell death and regeneration will be explored. These mechanisms have relevance to spinal cord injury as well as CNS degenerative diseases.
