The Bush administrations fiscal year 2002 budget request for the entire project is almost $519 million, 23% more than the $422 million that Congress approved for the purpose a year ago. Worth noting is that Japan and several European countries are generously investing in nanotechnology, too.
NSF and the Department of Defense received $150 million and $110 million, respectively, from NNI last year. NIH received $39 million and, if next years request is approved, will get $45 million in 2002.
