For the Annual Meeting of The Endocrine Society this month, President Benita Katzenellenbogen has selected the theme "Reproductive Hormones and Human Health." The June issue of JCEM features 11 Commentaries and 1 Book Review devoted to this subject. These commentaries cover broadly many different endocrine systems such as reproductive endocrinology per se, as well as the influence of thyroid hormone, the neuroendocrine system, calcium metabolism, and diabetes on this topic. In addition, 42 original articles have been selected for special emphasis in this issue because they, too, are focused on this theme.

You will note in this and in subsequent issues of JCEM that the criteria by which articles are listed in the Table of Contents in color have been changed. Over the past several years, articles of interest to clinical endocrinologists were highlighted in red (through December 1999) or in blue (since January 2000). The broadest definition of this category, including an increasing number of papers in translational research, has led to the Table of Contents being overwhelmingly dominated by color. At its logical extreme, all articles published in JCEM should be of interest to the clinical endocrinologist as the name of the journal states. With this issue, therefore, we are limiting the use of blue print in the Table of Contents to featured articles only. The rest of the Table of Contents will be printed in black.

Next month, the July issue will begin a new section entitled "Endocrine Care." In this section, articles of particular interest to the practice of endocrinology will be found. This section, thus, will include papers that are important to practitioners because they may influence their diagnostic or therapeutic approaches to endocrine disease. Placing these articles in a separate section of JCEM will make it easier for them to be identified.
