In 2005, the Journal of Biological Chemistry will celebrate 100 years of publication. During this period we will have published more than 130,000 papers.

In preparation for this centennial, the Journal will publish occasional "Reflections" by prominent biochemists as well as reproductions of some "Classic" papers. We plan to publish a Compendium of these articles in 2005. We hope that this collection will serve to indicate the dramatic developments in biochemistry during the past 100 years, as well as the very large part that the Journal of Biological Chemistry has had both in the publication of the biochemical literature and in the development of new methods of scientific communication.

The first paper in this series, entitled "Remembering Our Teachers," is published in this issue. In it Arthur Kornberg emphasizes the notable contributions of Carl Cori, Gerty Cori, and Severo Ochoa.
