We thank Török et al. for their interest in our article (Bedaiwy et al., 2002) and their confirmatory data. We fully agree with them that hydrosalpingeal fluid is bad and there is a possible role for oxidative stress in the embryotoxicity of hydrosalpingeal fluid. We have recently demonstrated the effect of vitamin C and E supplementation on blastocyst development in a mouse embryo model after the addition of artificially (phorbol ester) generated reactive oxygen species (ROS). We found that both vitamins C (50 µmol) and E (400 µmol) were able to reverse the embryotoxicity caused by ROS. Vitamin C was more effective in reversing the embryotoxicity (Wang et al., 2001
, 2002
). We look forward to their publications and data from other investigators validating the involvement of oxidative stress as one of the underlying cause(s) of hydrosalpingeal fluid embryotoxicity.
