Dear Sir,

We wish to report errors in our paper published last year (Muttukrishnaet al., 2000Go). We have recently discovered that the web-based calculator (http://cebm.jr2.ox.ac.uk/docs/2x2table.html) uses an incorrect formula to calculate confidence intervals for sensitivity. We present revised Tables III and IVGoGo below. Confidence intervals were recalculated using the software Confidence Interval Analysis (2000). This resulted in the same point estimates, but wider confidence intervals and minor alterations to post-test probabilities.

Table III. Test characteristics of maternal serum inhibin A and activin A at 15–19 weeks and 21–25 weeks to predict pre-eclampsia (prevalence of 4.8%)

Table IV. Test characteristics of maternal serum inhibin A and activin A at 15–19 weeks and 21–25 weeks to predict early onset pre-eclampsia (delivered <34 weeks) with a prevalence of 0.74%

We would like to thank Ed Juszczak (Centre for Statistical Medicine, Institute of Health Sciences, Oxford, UK) for his advice and help in reanalysing the data.
