Online publication with Advance Access is another technology being implemented by our publisher, Oxford University Press. Once a paper is published in Advance Access, its electronic version is regarded as published and is assigned a digital object identifier (DOI); the article can then be printed, cited, and accessed from Oxford's website (http://aje.oupjournals.org/).
The Journal remains one of the leading publications in the public health area, and its impact factor has grown steadily over the years, standing now at almost 5.0. Although impact factor per se is not a marker of quality, it reflects the Journal's ever-increasing popularity all over the world. With the increase in our timeliness, we hope to attract not only more high-quality submissions but also more readers, an important aspect of ensuring that epidemiology becomes even more prominent in the health area. The Journal's success depends on the efforts of many individuals, including authors, editorial board and associate editors, and staff. With their support, as well as that of our readers; our sponsoring organization, the Society for Epidemiologic Research; and our publisher, Oxford University Press, we look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence.
